TestSlot Radar
An independent product in development, designed to help learners track suitable practical driving-test opportunities without relying on constant manual checking.
Independent service. Not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
Context
A useful test slot depends on more than finding an earlier date. Learners may be balancing several test centres, work, travel limits and the amount of notice they need. TestSlot Radar is being built to let each person define what counts as useful, then receive a clearer alert when a suitable opportunity appears.
The problem
Learners can spend hours repeatedly checking for changes. A product in this category also has to be extremely clear about what it can and cannot do, how accounts are protected and where the official booking journey begins.
Constraints
- It must never imply DVSA affiliation or privileged access
- It cannot promise that a user will secure a test
- Account confirmation, recovery and notification flows need strong privacy and replay protection
- The product should surface opportunities, not automate the official booking process
- Public claims must match the release state exactly
Key decisions
Alert the user, do not book for them
The product is designed to surface a useful opportunity and send the learner back to the official booking journey.
Define “useful” before monitoring
Centres, dates, travel limits and personal preferences matter more than whether any slot exists.
Treat trust as part of the product
Confirmation, recovery, privacy and safe redirects are being hardened before real users are invited in.
Keep the status literal
The product stays labelled “in development” until the complete account and notification journey is reliable enough for a private beta.
Evidence so far
- Evidence being collected. The product, onboarding and account foundations are under active development and automated testing in an isolated staging environment.
- Release checks. Public descriptions are limited to features that have been built and verified. Unfinished functionality is not presented as available.
Where it stands
TestSlot Radar is in active development on isolated staging. Core tracking, onboarding and account foundations are in place; email confirmation and recovery are still being hardened before a private beta.
Next move: Finish the account lifecycle and the core notification experience, then invite a small group of learners into a supported private beta.
